yes, they are nice cars.

couple things - they aren't Hondas or Toyotas. If you aren't into maintenance, then skip the SAAB. they will last a long time if cared for; likely to die an ugly death if neglected. that isn't to say they are all lemons; they're not. it's just that they're not as trouble free as compared to various Japanese cars. the upkeep is at times expensive and, for a car of its age (low miles or not), it may be necessary to accept that fact that some of this expense may need to be defrayed by doing some maintenance yourself. there is lots of guidance here, and a terrific manual available (bentley publishers).

have an independent saab specialist look over the car. worth the money. they're different, so find someone who knows these cars.

weakest link is the manual transmission, which is also expensive to rebuild/replace. many folks have given up on their saabs when faced with a new tranny. Automatic trannys are generally considered to be inferior: they are inefficient, have only 3 speeds, and are also prone to failure. in my opinion, a saab should have a manual gearbox.

others will no doubt lend their advice as well.

my car is fun to drive, safe, practical, cleverly designed, and more appealing to my sense of aesthetics than any tan Camry or Accord could ever be.

do a search here on various phrases such as "should i buy" or "considering a saab" or "buying a saab"; you get the picture. the search feature is crude text string only: what you type is what it looks for.

my .02

ps also go to the car talk section of cars.com, where you should be able to find the survey section where people write about their cars. under 'classic' saab 900s (up to 93), you'll likely find mostly passionate, positive posts.
