I recently went through having a transmission rebuilt on my 88 900 S. It cost me about $1800 all in all with some other work being done at the same time. Your best bet is to find a good independent mechanic with good saab experience, some people insist on someone "saab only" but I don't think that's neccessary as long as he is familiar with working on the car. He'll be able to locate a rebuildable transmission core for you and rebuild it, as your transmission is probably unsalvageable. While he's in there have your engine mounts, alternator bushings, front and rear engine seals replaced, upper a-arm bushings replaced, new clutch installed, and finally replace the shifter bushings to insure a better feel. I also had new complete axels installed. You won't regret it your car will drive like new. I'm in FL so I can't recommend a mechanic, look around on the "links" section I'm sure there's someone in your area who's reputable.
