Dead spot on turning ignition key...when I start it....

it usually starts first time every time. Once hot, you turn the key (particularly highway trips and lots of intown driving) and there's nothing for a second or two. You actually think it's not going to start. Then, it either DOES start or stays dead. A jump USUALLY solves it. Brake lights are sticking periodically (don't know if related). These are some of the big ones....I've been stranded more times than I like to admit due to the key thing. Oh...have had a history of alternator/battery problems. Alternator in there now is SUPPOSED to be okay, as it battery...which had a lot of corrosion on it by the way (I have since cleaned terminals).
