Suspected Overheating

I recently had a problem where my 1989 Saab 900 Turbo overheated and the small hose that connects to the thermostat housing bursted. I have since replaced the thermostat and everything was cooling fine, until yesterday. I noticed that in the 90 degree weather that we have had here in Rochester, New York has been harsh on my car, the temp hand had moved dangerously close to "H" after the fans had been trying to cool things down for a while. The new hose was so stiff that I could't squeeze it. After the sun went down I drove around until about 10:30 P.M.. I could not get it to repeat. Do I need to replace my radiator? Or a new thermostat?
P.S. My fans are very strong, and turn on about every 10 - 15 seconds when the car is at idle for a long time in this extreme weather.
