Transmission's got a real slow leak, its either the driveshaft seal or maybe where the inner driver flange bolts to the transmission case. I'm going to replace CV boots, so I thought this would be the time to deal with it.
Funny thing, though. The inner driver seems loose, but not the way most of you describe it. The driveshaft & tripod bearings don't move inside the 'cup' of the inner driver. The inner driver itself is able to wobble in its bearings. This seems like its not right. Is it supposed to be like that?
I haven't looked at the manual yet, but who's done this? Is there a bearing that I have to press out in order to replace the driveshaft seal? Do I have to take it to somebody with a press or is it a normal workbench job?
If I replace the seal and/or bearing, do I have to come up with a new shim set to maintain preload or clearance?
Or am I just planning this the wrong way??
Thanks,
Jim Blake
