Are you stuck in "base boost"? Symptom- your turbo gauge now only goes halfway into the yellow.
If so, check the connection where your APC box plugs into the wiring harness (I think the APC box is under the rear seat in an '84)
Also, take a look at the hall sensor connection on your distributor. It's a single spade connection on the side which is vulnerable to damage. When it breaks, you might wind up with a number of drivability problems.
