85 900 8-valve

Discovered a fuel-smell when parking the car occasionally and found fuel dripping from behind the fuel tank. Found fuel dripping from what appeared to be a vapor or overflow hose on the end of what my Haynes manual calles a Fuel Accumulator (it appears to be after the pump and before the filter - physical location is above the rear axle, above and behind the muffler - the drips are actually hitting the axle before hitting the ground). I can't find reference to this item in my Bentley, but I have the Bentley for the 16 valve, so that may be the reason why.

Why might this critter be leaking out this vent hose...and does this signify anything about the part? What the heck does it do? (okay, I assume it accumulates fuel, but darn, I thought that was the job of the sump the pre-pump puts fuel into...).
