I've run amsoil 15w-40 marine synthetic (best price break) on my saabs and volvos since 1984. Spectroscopic oil analysis indicates carbon buildup in oil turns/'knees' the curve somewhere around 12-14K....and that's with an amsoil bypass oil filter. One year I tried changing the bypass oil filter and that helped push the knee out about 5K, so you pays your money and takes your chances.
Right now I change my 87 900T oil every 10K (and the filter too) and be done with it. No oil usage although I admit the engine was overhauled 44K miles ago. Oil is somewhat darkened with age...maybe I need to redo my spectroscopic oil analysis series since it is about 15 years old....
Change to synthetic and monitor your oil condition with oil analysis. Your amsoil dealer can help.
I bought the car at 13
