IF (a big if) the code is not of a 'severe' type then, potentially, you can clear the code by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes or so and then reconnecting it (that is what worked on my 1996 and I suspect that Saab didn't change much over the years - but I could be wrong). Make sure you have any codes for radios/alarms, etc. that may need to be reset after a battery disconnect!
About washing a car's engine - I've done this for years at the car wash but I always leave the engine running and I never use the 'high' pressure spray on the bubble brush suds I used to wash the engine with. I have never had a Check Engine Light malfunction which is not to say that I won't but unless you spray hard right onto the electrics you should be OK. We have had winter mornings here when the snow has blown into the engine compartment and completely filled the engine bay. As it melted I'm sure there was more moisture on all engine parts than you would get by a quick rinsing of the bubble brush suds!
