Gorper,
My '84S sprang a leak in the steering rack plumbing. I had no $$$ for repair, so I bought a quart of the Valvoline SynPower power steering/stop leak fluid. It worked! It really slowed the leak down!
My leak was fairly serious. I was out of town when the leak started (noticed a puddle of clear fluid under my car which wasn't there when I parked it--it wasn't brake fluid or the M-B antifreeze I use, so I deduced p/s fluid). The leak was dripping on the ground, which scared me to death & prompted me to do emergency removal of the power steering belt in an effort to save my pump. After I got it home and researched the cost of a new/rebuilt rack, and looking at my thin bankroll, I decided to at least give some stop leak fluid a try. I merely topped up the p/s reservoir with the Valvoline fluid, and the leak stopped!
I carefully kept an eye on the fluid, and still do. My '84 hasn't required a new rack yet (but I'm wary of it!). I have to top up about every third or fourth tank of gas. It uses the fluid enough to draw it down from FULL COLD to ADD at the above interval. Not bad!
So, now that my tale is over, you might want to try that Valvoline SynPower p/s fluid & stopleak in your 900. (It costs about $3-4 per quart here in NC.) It might delay the inevitable a bit longer.
I hope this helps!
