All the adjustment is made with the four proprietary nuts/carriage bolts that hold the assembly down. The whole assembly moves around quite a bit and there are two year specific procedures for proper alignment. The Bentley goes over each procedure in detail, but I can kind of give you an idea. There is a place in all models that you can put a drift/centering punch into in order to lock the linkage into position. This hole is in the gear selector housing in the earlier models and in the later models it's on the tranny. I can't think of the specifics right now and I don't have a manual. If I remember correctly both locations require you getting the tranny into fifth and then adjusting the housing. Most of the time "proper" alignment is unecessary and you can "feel it out" by hand and the law of averages.
Loosen the three sided nuts and move the selector around until you can get it into corresponding gears. Do it properly once you have the Bentley guide in your hands.
