Yes, I am shouting. Do you understand how much an event like the Gumball hurts real rallying? You know, the kind where being on time counts? Or even worse, the kind where being the fastest wins like ProRally and ClubRally? When we organize a rally event with liability insurance, you know, the stuff that will pay your hospital bills if you can't and will pay for the fence that you drove through, you need permission from all legal authorities. Start with the dog catcher and work up (or down depending on your opinion of politicians) to the governor. Every small town's police chief and every county sherriff has to approve your event. If the only thing they have heard about is the Gumball, do you think they will approve legitimate rallies?

Instead of wasting money on stupid tricks, try real performance rallying. If you think you can. Of course, $3000 won't take you far there. I am about to spend more than that next week in one event. And I run several a year.

The Brock Yates organized Cannonball rallies were not about terrorizing the country side, but about proving that you could drive across the country very rapidly and very safely. The only loss on any of his events was a deer. No mass arrests, no burning cars. No resemblance to any of the movies.

If you want to drive as fast as possible on the open road, go to any of the legititmate open road races like the ones in Neveda, Texas and Nebraska. There you can run 200MPH if you have the right safety equipment. But then the road is legally blocked off to other traffic.

I'm not through ranting, I just can't think of any more words to tell you how stupid this type of event is. And how harmfull to other types of motorsports.
