thanks for the responses, guys. i ended up pulling the mount and its bracket when i realized the bracket is held on with only 2 bolts.
the original bushing flares out around the ends of the bracket (in profile, the bushing looks like a spool of thread); the new one doesn't. this is ok, right? (i'm assuming the part has been superceded...)
also, bentley says to be sure to set the brackets at a 62* angle with respect to the a-arm; mine are nowhere near that. is this an area where i need to get all anal retentive? i'm not understanding why they need to be set like this.
