Mopar vs Dexcool coolant Posted by Kevin K [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Fluids questions, pajjammn, Thu, 15 Aug 2002 22:45:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Dexcool-orange 5yr is a OAT type coolant, no silicates, big diff from most others regarding corrosion protection method. GM and other mfg's (vw/audi) have it or close relative in new models. But, GM does not recomend it's use in older gm's. VW has elaborate process for retro to older models using silicated coolants.
Dexcool retro use has some issues. Some suggest 2 year changes if retro is done, vs oem supplied new.
Mopar exended life 5yr (pinkish-orange) is an OAT type with silicates (Hybrid-OAT) .... silicate levels similar to mercedes std (euro G48). Since it has silicate base, no risk in conversion for older cars.
I used dexcool in 83T a few years with no probs, other than slightly more leak prone and funky pink crusty deposits when it did. Just switched to Mopar since I prefer it in my track car (mopar should resist cavitation and severe heat issues better at the track).
