quick cooling system check Posted by Kevin K [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Assume all healthy parts, good tune.
Aft cold/cool start, easy cruise, no ac, temp gage rises, then drops a small amount to a steady position. This is near the t-stat opening point. About 40% of green with 82C cold t-stat, 50% with standard oem 89C t-stat.
Even in 90F heat, ac off, cruising on flat roads /gentle hills, 35 mph or 70 mph, gage should not rise more than needle width or 2 above this position.
Gauge Note:
most other oem temp gauges will stay at a middle position over a range of temps, from just below t-stat open point to just above where fans kick in at highest speed. Example, this temp range for staying at middle is 50-60 deg F for a mazda rx7 3rd gen.
C900 gauge is unusual. It's linear, just like an aftermarket gauge, and tells what's going on. It's not supposed to 'not move' once at it's normal temperature. At idle, it should rise some ( from 50% normal position to 2/3 of green with oem parts) before fans come on.
