The '82-'88 gauges are all the same in the US. In '89 and then again in '90 and '91, the placement of the odometer changed. In 1992 the gauges changed altogether, with 65mph at the top (vs. 55mpg previously) and a top speed indicated of 135mph (instead of 125mph). Much better looking gauge, too. I just don't know if they're compatible with older cars, or I'd swap over to them. They look like 9000-style or NG900-style gauges - a lot less clunky.
The gauge we designed worked with '82-'91, but would not work in the '92+ cars. We got around the odometer issue by leaving the space uncut until the order was received.
Let me know what you work out with the mfgs. I'd absolutely jump in for a set for my 2-door, and *might* for the SPG, though I think I'm happy with its current look.
