I can't really say, because I don't know what the seal looks like now.
If the seal have been deformed in any way, it's not possible get it going straight again and you need to get a new one.
It's only a one shot deal when doing this.
It's also important to not push the seal as far in as it can go, this will jam the nylon shifterbushing inside and you might end up with a very sticky/notchy shifter.
You might try to stick a piece of 2x4 up against the steeringrack to lever the force out over a bigger area.
The amount of pressure that needs to be aplied on the prybar is not for the weak hearted, depending how long of a prybar you are using.
