Find yourself a nice used passenger seat... Posted by IrieTom [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Thanks IrieTom...!!!!, pursang, Fri, 30 Aug 2002 12:31:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The upholstery and foam ARE interchangible from right to left. 99 percent of the time, the passenger seat will be in better shape than the drivers side. Typically, leather from a 9000 will be newer and less worn than upholstery from a 900.
When I did my swap, I actually used donor seats from two different 9000s. My current driver's seat had a former life as a passenger seat, and vice-versa.
The only evidence that the seats arent't original are:
1> The headrests. Much better looking than the old 900 ones, IMHO
2> The missing lumbar support adjuster. There's an X-shaped cutout on the side of my driver's seat behind my right elbow where the knob used to protrude near the 9000's passenger B-pillar. The other seat originally had power motors everywhere, must have weighed an additional 25 lbs, no cutout.
3> There is less leather near the hinges exposing a little foam, because the 9000 didn't need hinges (they had back doors for rear-seat passengers)
4> The front lip under my knees never fit perfectly, but can be secured so that nobody would ever notice.
I'd be happy to email you some photos, if you want to see the whole unvarnished truth...
