Water Pump failure...

Has anyone experienced a failure of the pump vane? i.e. no leaks but no flow of water thru the engine, or limited flow due to the impellor having corroded away?
Still trying to sort out my overheating problem.......
I've just been looking at it again. Engine warm, cap off, water level 3/4 full. Squeeze all pipes, level increases, no bubbles. Open vent, water, no air. Go for quick blast round the ring road, use loads of boost........approx 3 miles engine temp starts to head high. Stop car, water level 3/4, slowly open cap, water level starts to rise to full. Close cap, open vent.....loads of hot air.....leave until pressure eases and then open cap, water level then goes back to 3/4 and water appears out of the vent.
My thoughts....
The water is circulating thru my heater until such a time as steam or cylinder gas pressurises the system and causes a vapour lock of some description.
Could my water pump have failed completely and the fact that the electric fan runs continuous when it gets hot could my engine be cooled purely on water convection thru the radiator. The engine is getting really hot to touch!
