Miss problem - still with me (Grrrrrrrrrr)

Thought I'd sorted out a miss problem when I discovered corroded coil contacts. I was wrong & it's back.
89 900t. Plugs gapped properly; plug wires relatively new (<10k mi.)/tested for resistance; cap/rotor is brand new (Bosch); coil is good/tested; Hall Sensor plug tests fine; distrib. replaced. (in earlier post, i noted tach needle drop when missing - actually, this doesn't happen regularly - just once in a while.)
Before I buy a new ignition module, I have a question about the Hall Sensor wire: what appears to be some sort of braided rf shield around the two wires is pulled completely off the plug. electronics is mostly black magic to me: does this thing protect the sensor wires from rf or is it protecting my radio from interference due to the sensor? does this seem a more likely culprit than the ignition module? guess i need to know which damn part to buy next.
thanks...
