The valve noise may go away if you just changed your oil. When the oil is drained, the lifters (or tappets, or followers, depending on what camp you're from :D ) can get noisy. Driving the car for a while might cure your problem.
If not, check your Bently. The early (pre-mid-88) 16v heads have plastic oil feed lines under the valve cover, and appearently they fail from time to time. The later (post-mid-88) heads have internal oil passages for the lifters, and sometimes those passages need to be bled. The procedure is in the Bently.
I've learned the following also while trying to track down a (pretty loud) click from the head of the 88 I just bought. People have mentioned that the noise could be anything from injectors to the APC solenoid, to the timing chain rattling on the pad inside the valve cover. So take your time with a stethescope or screwdriver and try to determine where the noise is coming from.
