The ticking sound occurs throughout the RPM range. I know that this engine is not the epitome of quiet, but the noises I've come to know over the last 30K, I usually enjoy! Also, I just changed the oil, and i thought that that might have caused the initial noise, and it would go away, but after 200 miles after change, noise is still there. Thank you, thank you Ari,Nathan, and RS for the unbelieveablly quick replies, and for giving me things to check out and ways to do it!!! I know the Bently is supposed to be invaluable, but so is this web site and your help. Without it I would have sold the car last year. PS..didn't mean to dis VW. My first car was a 66 Beetle! It and I both survived a haed on crash with a Cadilac in 1976! A cinch-down lap/shoulder belt saved me, and after replacing the front suspensoin and entire body,(amazing what DIY projects you'l tackle at 17!) car was back on the road! Thanks again, David.
