I don't mind generalizations, but this one is ridiculous. Water mineral content is ALL OVER THE PLACE in the U.S. Some places it is soft, some places hard. Red stains in the bathtub are indication of high iron content, but other minerals are not so easy to detect visibly.
Prestone is simply saying they do not share the views of the European auto manufacturers. And they want that coolant replaced as often as possible so that they sell more coolant, they don't really care which coolant you buy. Also, they are addressing the needs of 99% of the auto market in the U.S., and are not preoccupied with the 1% of cars that have known corrosion problems, like the Saab 2.1L engines. So Prestone is happy to peddle the green stuff, which is an inferior coolant, IMO. Using the extended life antifreeze is a no-brainer. And forget about the 5 year life- flush the coolant every 2 years.
