There is a switch on the console, usually next to the A/C switch (with the frost icon on it) which allows you to either close the flap, not allowing fresh air into the cabin (switch in). If ti is in the off positon (out) then it keeps the flap open. The other time that the flap automaticly (should) close it when you turn the air sclector switch to the large arrow, the one one step clockwise to the off position. Using this slection (with engine on since the flap operates on the engine's vaccuum) is a good way to see if it is operating.
