Background: I've owned 6 900 Turbos (83/84/86/86/89SPG/89SPG). Have zero 900's now, and plan to get a 90 SPG because I miss the enjoyment!

I'm currently looking at a 90 SPG, and it is very nice, but has one odd thing I've never encountered and cannot even guess what causes it, unless it's unibody damage. No apparent rust (car is from California), drives perfectly, and I hope to get it examined by a Pro this week. Also, I have a 2-page checklist I've developed over the years for checking out the 900.

BUT, here's the odd thing, to the best of my ability to describe it: It makes a "pop" noise (muffled, not like an M-80), each time it shifts fron acceleration to deceleration. Back out of the driveway, it pops when you stop. First gear-accelerate-pop. Second gear-accelerate-pop. Second gear-let up on gas-pop. Or maybe go through first to 5th smoothly-apply brakes-pop. The pop seems to come from one of 3 locations - mostly from the left just behind the driver; sometimes from the right just in front of the passenger; occasionally from the right just behind the passenger. All pops sound the same tone/intensity.

Additional info: Three panels on car have been repainted some time ago (rest looks original), at the same time, by the same person/shop. The roof, the LEFT quarter, and the RIGHT door. Current owner doesn't know why. I have looked at the dogbones(?)(Stay 91 03 102) and didn't see any wear there.

PLEASE: Thoughts, ideas, experience, suggestions, theories? THANKS!
