To remove and replace an AIC valve shouldn't take more than 10 minutes, unfortunately though, most shops don't charge 10 minutes of labor for anything, so you'll probably end up spending 1 hour labor, or 1/2 hour labor if you are lucky.

This is an EASY do-it-yourself project as there's not much to it other than unscrewing a couple of bolts and unplugging a connector. Also, before you replace with a new one, it's often been suggested on this board that you remvoe it and clean it with some carb cleaner, as this will remove some of the dirt that may cause it to be sticking. Either way, try this project on your own, buy the part from a board sponsor, and save yourself some money (on both the part and labor). Worst case scenario is that you roll into you local mechanic with the part and pay him the labor to install.

As for the coolant temperature switch, my head is spinning on that one as i've been reading up A LOT on my coolant system lately and it's all starting to run together. Until somebody else answers, i'd guess less than 1/2 hour for that, probably closer to 20 minutes (just a guess, whoever replies next should be more accurate).

I'm pretty new to the DIY world, but i can assure you, no matter how frustrating at times, the satisfaction of beginnnig to understand your car is amazing!
