900C - top front header corrosion problems

The front header bar on my '93 900 convertible top is rotting away in certain spots (largely on the driver's side) and the rubber gasket that runs all across the front is no longer attached to the header in those spots (the screws have no place to anchor themselves - it's rotted away). In fact, the detached parts are just dangling in place (screws exposed) & every time I open the roof, the corroded flakes snow down on my head.
I'm planning to replace the cloth top this weekend, but what do I do with the corroded areas once I remove the old top? I can't very well just put a brand new top on a corroded header bar. The dealer has quoted me almost $900 for the replacement part alone, not to mention $200 for a new gasket! Can I drill out the corrosion & take it somewhere to have the pits/holes filled back in or something (I believe it's made of aluminum)? If not, how do I prevent further rotting & how do I get that gasket reatached?
I'm also worried about the strength of the piece being weakened by the corrosion.
Thanks!!!
