My 85 8V also exhibited similar behavior for awhile - eventually getting to the point where I had to use starter fluid to get it to fire after it cooled down. What appeared to fix it was to bypass the fuel accumulator located just above the rear axle on the passenger side (from the bottom of the car). Mine had apprently been leaking internally for some time - and then began leaking out of the overflow line on it...I just disconnected it, ran a fuel hose between the in and out hoses and the car starting issues instantly disappeared.

The only other thing that appeared to change when I bypassed the accumulator was that my fuel mileage took about a 2 mpg dip. The car does feel zippier, though...
