I agree with JimBlake... if you are in there with everything jacked up and apart, then at least replace both balljoints on a side. You might get away with doing only one side.
The thing is, once you do all four balljoints, the car will ride like a new car. It is amazing.
BTW, an easy way to do this is to use a hacksaw to cut off the nut and bolt on the old balljoint, then pop out the ball. Sometimes there is not enough clearance to get the nut clear of the bolt.
