Me too! What gives? Posted by Saana88 [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Now my car is doing it. The temperature gauge has always read a little high, but last night it almost pegged on my way home. We could never find out why. The car is currently a shade over 153k and got a new radiator and water pump at 100 and thermostat (82 C? the lower value) around 120. The cooling fans turn on with the gage around 3/4 and shut off around a minute later. They will stay on or turn on right after the car is turned off like they are supposed to. Last night, the temperature went up beyond its normal temp of two thirds to around three quarters with the fans not cycling on. I did my usual switching on the heat full blast to try and contain it, and the fans turned on and lowered the temperature to around two thirds after around a minute, but while the temperature was elevated the fans DID NOT turn on. I'm starting to get nervous about this. When traveling on the interstate for prolonged periods, the temperature will be constant but high, and around town it used to vary between two thirds and three quarters depending on what the fans were doing.
Is my engine actually running hot, or is there an electrical fault with the gauge (I wish I could find a 47 ohm resistor) or wiring or sensor? I also backflushed the car a month and a half ago. Today I cleaned the engine electrical ground connector with no change after a test drive. The coolant is full and not overflowing after the engine turns off.
We always thought that the car ran a little hot just because the slushbox cooling lines were routed through the lower coolant hose instead of in the radiator where they belonged.
(Ten minutes later) Then again, I just loosened the radiator cap and it didn't hiss anywhere near as much as it usually does. Please tell me this is it? Time for a good ol' 75 77 323 and away we go?
Many thanks!
