More food for thought -Cable to the knock sensor, maybe Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Doesnt that Bite!, 87saaber, Tue, 24 Sep 2002 16:25:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
4 flashes is the indication that the knock sensor is bad or that something is causing the EZK module to retard the ignition. One likely candidate is the connector to the knock sensor.
[Just out of curiosity, have you changed spark plug wires recently? If so, did you use Bougicords (OEM plug wires)? THe knock sensor cable will pick up emissions from non-shielded cables and incorrectly interpret what they pick up as knock. If they're old, you may want to change them anyway.]
Try this: Unbolt the knock sensor, wrap it in a paper towel or something and lay it on the inner fender somewhere. You may need to clip a tie-wrap to do this. Drive around and see if you get the same CEL message.
While it's off, inspect the rubber boot on the connector and see if it's torn. Also take off the connector to the EZK box and use an ohmmeter to measure for continuity on both wires of the cable. I don't know the numbers of the pins to check on the EZK connector. Maybe someone else has those handy. IF you get an intermittent, then that's your problem.
Sometimes the knocks sensors do go bad, so you may want to swap in a known good one. Don't tighten any more than 10 ft-lb.
