You can make up a short jumper wire, with a small female blade connector (1/8"?). You find the correct wire under the back seat ('89, right?). Its in a black connector attached to a bracket just right of center, facing upwards with a black plastic cover. Unless the connector has been moved around by the PO, the wire you want is in the right-hand row, 2nd from the back.
First time I used a paper clip, but its easy to slip & touch the other terminals. You can get fancy & put a switch in it, but I just hold the other end of the wire against the metal bracket to ground it.
Instructions are in TSN FAQs & Townsend's site.

(but this has the '88 location for the test wire)

The codes are stored, so it doesn't have to be screwing up at the moment. However, post the codes you read since some of them can be misleading if you don't think about cause-&-effect and what the ECU can actually detect. So they have a point about wanting to see for themselves when it screws up.
You may want to read & clear the codes, then after driving around for a week, read them again. That way you know the codes weren't stored a year ago.
Then again, maybe the clean battery posts fixed it, & you won't have the trouble again ;-)
