Allright, this breaking news.

Before I read Jim's post reply, I tried the method proposed by RS using my oil can filled with DOT4 brake fluid, and bleeding backward to the reservoir.

At first nothing, she was definitely plugged somewhere, or perhaps I had some air in the 1/4 fuel line I used. I then burped the line to get solid incompressible fluid & tried again. I had my son flipping the clutch pedal back & forth, nothing. Looking in the reservoir, nothing coming back. Finally in his "lost interest mode" he let the pedal fall down and I continued pumping a few minutes. Then he hit the pedal and it was getting firm! I told him not to do it again as he was driving it back to my oil can. I continued for another couple minutes and then closed the bleeder nipple, told him to stab the pedal, and it was normal. I peeked down in the clutch cover access hole & sure enougth the slave was again releasing the clutch! Viola !!

We fired that puppy up and roadtested it in my subdivision (no tag, stealth mode under darkness :o) ), my clutch is back in business.

I should note, the fluid in the reservoir was a little black looking for my tastes. Then new fluid purging back looked much lighter in color. So next I intend to bleed the entire brake system to attempt to get the black crud out. From PO records, I can't tell if it has ever been bled in 12 years.

Jim, I agree that the rubber portion of the clutch hydraulic line may have begun degrading. I will purchase a new one and plan to swap it out. I replaced this line on my 87T and it was a be-otch of a job, especially the fittings on each end require someone VERY flexible and special wrenches at the slave IIRC.

Thanks guys,

DET
