What do you think? 1989 900T 175K
I have a lound rumble proportional to speed, beginning to be perceptible at around 25 mph. It is definetely the right front. The noise increases when loading the right suspension and decreases when loading the left. No noticeable difference in the noise when turning, even with a tight radius turn. I changed the tires just to eliminate that possibility. The rumble is a multiple of the wheel speed, can't tell if its 3 or more. Pushing in the clutch and changing gears makes no difference. With the front right wheel of the car jacked up and the front left tire on the ground it makes the noise while in gear and the wheel spinning in the air, but at the same frequency. The inner tripod bearing and inner driver were changed at 68k. The wheel bearing was also changed at 68k. The outer CV is original.
This does not sound like inner driver symptoms to me. No vibration on acceleration. And so far no noticeable decrease in fuel mileage, although the noise has been getting progressively worse for about a week. I am starting to feel the vibration in the floor and shifter now. With the wheel up in the air the noise appears to be coming from closer in to the motor than the outer CV or wheel bearing. Could this be the bearing the inner driver rides in? Nothing appears to be overheating. Checked the tranny fluid and it seems normal. I am at a loss. What do you think?
