Yet again, perhaps my Australian perspective may help. If you have the spare cash and drive a car in Australia... you get your windows tinted! It is certainly not "Rice"... it is necessary. There are hundreds of "car tint shops" listed in the phone book. You would have to be totally nuts to try and do it yourself.
You will need to spend a bit of money (about $300 Australian/ $150 USA) to do a whole car in "darkest legal" high quality tint.
The best and only type you should consider is tint that uses metals or carbon as the pigment. Tints that use standard dies to make them dark eventually turn purple after a few years.
And finally, to answer your question about the back window, the tint should be heat moulded to shape on the outside of the window, before they acually apply it to the inside. It will not shrink/peal if it is heat moulded properly. Ask your tint shop if that is how it is done. The old technique involved using multiple smaller pieces of tint to prevent it pealing, which is a sure sign that your local tint shop has no idea what they are doing. Also, the defroster lines in the back window should cause no problems if the job is done properly.
