Yes, I've actually done it twice. Took one off an old 9000 ABS unit (out of the car) installed it on mine and then removed it when I donated the car. As long as you relieve the majority of the pressure by pumping the brakes all that happens is that you get a squirt of brake fluid when you break the thread seal. You can actually bleed the air out after installing by hand tightening the accumulator, pressing the brake pedal and holding it down while unscrewing the accumulator, and then screwing it back in, do this two or three times, sort of like bleeding calipers.
