Same car, same interrogation. Here's what I found out.

I love your car. I've the same.
My auto tranny has 125k on and is still working OK. The major sign of wear is it needs to be warmed up when the weather is cold. After 1/2 mile, it's all fine. But still, it's gonna let me down one day.
So I enquired a little about the options available.
Basically you can get the auto tranny partially rebuild or replaced, depending on how worn it is.
It's not cheap (say $2000 for a replacement), it's not extremely reliable (some reported trouble with newly replaced trannies), and you stick with that awful auto tranny which has a limited life-span anyway.
Or you get your tranny converted to a manual one.
It's even less cheap (I've been told $3000 by a real good independant w/ new everything), but it's reliable (no major trouble to do beside a full week of work) and it's a whole lot more appropriate for that type of car (not to mention it's real fun to drive too...).
So the real question for you (and for me) is: do you really want to keep that car forever ?
If you can answer that question easily, then you know what to do...
Good luck.
BTW I'd be curious to know your car's mileage, tranny shape, etc...
