To get more room, you can easily undo the headpipe flange above the battery and unbolt the headpipe bracket at the tranny. The upper headpipe nuts normally aren't frozen. I would not only undo the trans bracket and pull down on the cat to get room, because of stress on headpipe.
when you install your new system, be sure to test drive it before you really crank the U-bolts tight and indent the pipes. If you have a clunk over the axle and need to adjust the joints, the pipes won't slide freely with the indentations. Once all is quiet, then you can do the final tightening. There are pipe expanders that can take the indentations out if you screw up...tool used once, because you don't make the same mistake twice!!!
