Dash lighting repair is not too bad. You need a Torx screwdriver set. Remove 2 screws holding driver's speaker panel in place. Then pry up carefully with a decent screwdiver on rear edge, with a protective rag between dash surfaces). Disconnect 2 speaker wires, and note positioning of defroster air tube up to speaker panel duct. You can look into the work area thru the windshield with a flashlight.

You should see +/- 14 little plastic rectangular things - these are specific lights (battery, check engine, left & right blinkers, etc.) - my 90 SPG has 14, not certain about the 88 SPG. NOTE: the green one is 2.0 volt, and goes behind the "battery" lamp. Above all these little ones are 2 larger ones (one leftish, one rightish). Those are the two which should provide lighting for Speedo, Tach, main dash, etc. All bulbs are type you loosen 90 degrees, and they come out. I believe the 2 Dash-Lighting bulbs are supposed to be 12 volt/3 watt (#158 bulb). If you need a tool (GENTLY), the small ones can be helped with an 8mm open end wrench, the large ones I think take a 1/2 inch socket - GENTLY. I understand there are occasional problems with the printed circuit board (you can search forum, if that's the problem).
