Pull the rubber or leather boot off the shifter and then you'll see 3 torx screws. If you pull those screws you can yank the shifter out. Put it in neutral first, and just live with the annoying "BEEP BEEP" of having the keys in.
Notice the notch in the housing. I'm pretty sure it's on the left. A little tab on the ball goes into that notch and keeps the whole thing from spinning around. That tab can shear off. The part you need to replace is like $15 at the dealer. It's a little greasy when you take all the stuff out to fix it, but no big deal. Quick fix.
Out of curiosity, does it spin around and around in neutral? When mine did that I never had trouble shifting, just an annoying spinning shifter.
