Couple of things come to mind:

Spark: Have you tried taking the line from the coil off the distr. and holding it next to the body to see if it arc's? (might be a better way/more elegant, but it's worked for me)

Fuel: Do you have a fuel pressure gauge on the rail to see if there's fuel? I don't know how else to tell without a gauge that there's pressure, but someone else on the board might know.

I'd also just double check all of the wiring (maybe have someone else check it, even if they don't know what they're doing, someone not attached to the situation has a better chance of finding an unconnected wiring harness) I've left the connectors off of injectors before. Yikes!

Best of luck. Post your findings and I'll try to think of some other ideas. The head gasket is a bitch of a job, and i screwed up my first one... won't tell you how... my ego still hurts.
