Cold air intake questions

Planning on putting in a cold air intake. I was hoping to put the cone filter where the fog light goes (look at picture) to get some fresh cold air.

Then connect PVC pipe to the filter and run it into the intake sensor. I was going to use those metal rings where you tighten the screw on it to connect the filter to the PVC pipe.

Then I was going to take out the existing air box and intake to make room for the piping.

One issue I can see is getting the PVC pipe around the intake sensor and tube. I want to make it so if I need to, I can replace the existing intake system fairly quickly and easily. So maybe a rubber tube connected onto the end of the PVC pipe then another metal band around it to seal on the intake connector.

The other issue is water and rocks and stuff. I was thinking of putting a screen or mesh to prevent something getting caught in the filter. I have these bad dreams that water gets sucked into there and I picture it running up the intake pipe and into the engine and destroying my engine.

Please tell me if this is wrong or bad or if it's super and will work excellent! If it's not good, please tell me what I can do to fix it! I'm guessing that it's all good, just think I'd get an opinion from the professionals. Thank you very much! If all goes good, I might have it done this weekend.
