Strap it secourely down on a small pallet then afix some covering to it. I'd suggest you use ABF-try to see if Eriksson's will pre-pay the freight and add it to your bill as they cut a volume discount with them. I got a gearbox shipped by UPS shortly after they took on the heavy packages. It looked like it was kicked for upstate NY to SE PA. Eriksson tried them too but stopped because they dropped some on end so hard the the retaining tab on the end of the countershaft was broken off. You know those Teamster truckers won't move it a millimeter more than they have to. In this case it's an advantage. Seriously though, they were always helpful with me at the terminal and they were open 'til 8 to boot.
