I'll second wrenches ... Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Removing rear axle at junk yard, tools needed?, Rob85Turbo, Mon, 21 Oct 2002 22:15:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A can of PB Blaster is very helpful, too.
It took me about 45 mins to pull the replacement axle for my car.
17, 18, and 19-mm box wrenches and sockets are what's used most of the bolts on the axle mounts. Vice grips. Utility knife for cutting the brake hoses or flare wrenches for taking the flare fittings off the brake lines inside the car. A breaker bar is a must-have, too.
Fortunately, you don't need to mess with the shocks unless you want to pull the trailing links (in front of the axle.)
When I pulled the axle, I took the Panhard rod and the torque arms (behind the axle) along with it. I'm not sure what the rust situation is where you are, but you may want to carefully look at the clips that hold the brake lines onto the axle - the ones on my parts car from up North were totally rusted off.
