New ignition switch = no go, Help!!

I spent the day replacing my faulty ignition swich on my '89 SPG and now neither work. The old switch I believed to be suffering from wear causing it not to start when it got warm (annoying on a hot day). The new one that I put in wont do anything except run the starter, and then everything comes on, until I release the starter, then it all shuts off. I tried it with the old one at it gives me exactly the same reaction to everthing I do to the new one. I went to the diagnostic terminal on the fuse panel and wired the car on using the 12 O'Clock and 6 O'Clock terminals. I then used the key to start the car and then it runs the starter in both the start and run position. I have to put it back in the acc. position to keep the engine running, the only thing is then when I put the key back to the accessory position it turns the starter off and then the radio etc. turns off. While I have the terminal jumpered the parking break and break fluid lights come on the right side of the dash, but not the lights on the left side of the dash (oil, battery, etc.) the only come on when the starter is running. I took the wires off the old switch and put them on the new in the same pattern and have done testing trying the different wires in the hot s+ and other positions just to see if they work at all (which they dont). I would really appreciate it if anone has any idea what this could be... and just in case I would appreciate the color patern to the different terminals on the switch (15, 30, 50, etc.)
