I had a hell of a time getting mine off. You will need to use heat. That will make it MUCH easier. Cook that sucker. The rubber doesn't need to be harmed, just get a propane torch and put the blue flame right on there.
You could just do it the easy way and undo the hose clamp that is right next to the taper pin. You will have a hell of a time retightening that hose clamp though once you are ready to put the engine back in.
I have never actually gotten one of those taper pins out with it in the car, so I say go with undoing the hoseclamp, and get the pin out with the engine sitting on the garage floor. Much much easier. Good luck,
