been having a strange problem with my cooling/coolant system in my 1988 900 Aero.
First off current situation:- T-Stat 6 months old, new lower temp fan switch, car never overheats (at cruise it sits at just under half on gauge and in stop/start traffic hits half on gauge with both fans coming on at just a touch over half on gauge. Coolant in reservoir sitting just under Max. Brand new coolant reservoir and cap - 3 weeks old! New radiator hoses and heater hoses, new plastic style heater valve is 2 years old. Cooling system pressure tested 3 weeks ago and found to be fine.
Drove 100km yesterday, popped the hood upon arrival at destination and found the coolant to be over the Max level and signs of some coolant had been expelled from under the cap. This has been happening for about 2 weeks. When fans come on the incoming coolant from the smaller hose is quite noticable into the reservoir - comes in with a rush.
There also seems to be only a little heat from the heater (even when switched to "HOT level" when that is switched on and car is at temperature.
No signs of head gasket failure - no coolant in oil nor oil in coolant. car starts at 4th turn of starter always, no white smoke and no power loss. Plugs look normal. Coolant temp is normal too.
I did blow two hoses about 2 months ago tho - the top radiator hose closest to radiator and the top heater hose. Both replaced (in fact replaced both the heater hoses and upper radiator hoses to be sure) and both old hoses looked pretty buggered.
Im thinking that rad may be blocked? are these above symptoms, signs of that?
any help would be great!
cheers from down under
sab!
