I used a SEARS 'Gold' battery for over 7 years in weather that went down to -40, and never had a problem until I went on vacation and forgot to turn off the interior light. It would have been fine even today except for this act of stupidity. After 4 weeks any battery would be fried.

Sears outsourced their batteries from EXIDE. I don't know if they still do. Most battery "makers" really buy from outsourced manufacturers. Do you really think Sears, Walmart, K-mart, Target make their own batteries and deal with lead and sulfuric acid polution laws? SAAB does not make them, but probably buys from company that slaps a Saab sticker on. Exide makes tons of outsourced batteries, but for those of you with good memories, Sears successfully sued Exide for sending Sears Exide batteries that were not as good as the ones that Exide was selling under the Exide name. In essence, Exide was placing Sears stickers on 'factory seconds'. Sears then refunded money to customers with inferior batteries. This is no longer the practice at Exide, but other companies might be just as ruthless. That means you need to ask who makes this battery for Saab, GM, Delco, etc... The great thing about Sears Gold is that it is waranteed up the wazoo, and has either 850 or 1000 cranking amps. Depending on how you use your car's A/C, heater, stereo, or if you crank when it is below -20 F, you will need lots of amperage.

A battery is no place to skimp! Buy good quality, buy big amperage, and take care of it by not letting it go dead, or by dicosnnecting it or getting a marine trickle type charger when you know you will be away and won't start the car for over a week.

Good luck!
