Ignition switch? Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 89 900 Turbo -- Occasional quitting, Dave, Mon, 4 Nov 2002 16:09:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There has been an occasional problem with ignition switches going bad. If the car acts just like it's been 'shut off', this is something to consider.
If it's had a new ignition amplifier, there is always the possibility of a bad Hall effect transducer in the distributor.
When the engine dies, does it die just like it's been shut off, or does it sputter first? Sputtering would be the sign of a fuel problem (fuel pump/fuel pump relay). If it just quits, then look electrical/ignition.
When the car doesn't restart, how does it act? Does the engine crank? Does the engine crank but the tachometer just sit there? If the tach isn't moving, think ignition amplifier or hall effect transducer.
