I've exhausted the Saab expertise in northern Canada so pray that one of our very bright members will have an idea for my problem. I have an '82 900T that runs fine until it decides to quit. It'll shut down at speed with a big backfire or it'll shut down at idle without any fanfare. It sometimes will not start half an hour after putting her away. It always starts once it's sufficiently rested (or cooled). The Saab specialist in my town told me it needed a new distributor system so he put one in. The problem persists. Her next tow truck ride was to the Saab/Saturn dealer where they are not accustomed to working on old Saabs. Their thought was it needed a throttle body. After describing it's breakdown this morning the dealership guy said it sounded more like an electrical problem if it was not running rough prior to quitting. He said it could be about 10 things but it would be tough to tell unless they could run tests when it's in the failure condition. By time the tow truck driver arrives the car's motor is ready to roll once again. So, there's not much chance of their doing diagnostics on it when it's not running. So I turn to the Saab Network to get the answer. Have any of you had similar experience? I'm afraid I'm going to have to tell the boys with the tools what has to be done to fix this car. I am most grateful to anyone who'll give this a stab.
